All were invited and most accepted. GIBS is a place where crucial conversations take place. We wanted to contribute by providing our students with enough information to make an informed choice. The political parties were asked to showcase their vision for the future and articulate policies that align with the diverse and dynamic aspirations of the population.
With no ties to any specific party, GIBS aimed to offer a platform for all political parties to express their perspectives ahead of elections, fostering crucial discussions and assisting voters in preparing for their electoral choices. Through this process, voters would assess the promises and track records of these parties, making decisions that will shape the country’s political trajectory in the years to come. GIBS stands as the catalyst for these important conversations.
South Africa stands at the cusp of a crucial juncture. The elections are poised to be a pivotal moment in the country’s democratic journey, offering citizens the opportunity to exercise their right to choose leaders who will navigate the nation through its multifaceted challenges and opportunities.
At the time of going to print, the series of Forums was continuing and GIBS’s audiences had heard from the following:
“We are trying to revive and deepen democratic culture and participation.” - Rise Mzansi leader Songezo Zibi
“It is possible for different races to work together, and it is possible that we can be united by our ideals.” - Build One South Africa leader Mmusi Maimane
“I’m not in this business to make friends. I want to save and fix my country. I cannot co-exist with criminals.” - ActionSA leader Herman Mashaba
"Only a few are tasting the fruits of our new democracy, and we must expand the base." - Good Party leader Patricia de Lille
