GIBS had the distinct honour of hosting Prof. Francis Petersen, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Pretoria (UP), as part of his roadshow across the university’s various campuses and his first official visit to the GIBS campus.

This visit provided an invaluable platform for faculty and staff to engage with the Vice-Chancellor and gain insights into his strategic vision for the institution’s future. The discussions underscored the power of collaboration and innovation in driving academic excellence, fostering institutional growth, and enhancing the societal impact of higher education — both within Africa and on a global scale.

Prof. Petersen shared key strategic perspectives that will guide the future direction of UP:

  • Enhancing a people-centric approach to university operations and culture, which he called “human-centredness”.
  • Actively working to elevate UP’s global standing and influence.
  • Positioning UP as a global intellectual leader on African matters, for Africa and the world.
  • Leveraging technology in all aspects of the university’s work.
  • Increasing UP’s contributions to societal development and community engagement.

GIBS Dean Professor Morris Mthombeni said, “I would like to express my gratitude for Prof. Petersen’s visit and insights. As the university's business school, GIBS reaffirms its commitment to translating these discussions into meaningful action.”

“GIBS looks forward to continuing this journey of excellence and contributing to the broader mission of shaping the future of business and education,” he added.
